Mayor Morehouse seconded, adding "if the bid is too out of whack, we can go to another source.”
Mr. Wickens observed that “the leaks are not costing us a lot.”
“Eventually, they will,” the mayor replied. “Water seeks the path of least resistance. When the fill erodes away, it could break the pipes. We wouldn’t even know where the leaks are.”
After a discussion about the feasibility of extending the water lines out along Mt. Salem Avenue and down Main Street toward Baldwin’s Grocery, council decided to forgo any extension plans.
“It’s penny-wise and pound-foolish,” Mr. Wickens commented. “It could run us out of reservoir capacity, and the few customers would never make back the cost.”
The town, Mr. Wickens added, has redrawn and shrunk its boundaries because of concerns about supplying water to some of the outlying areas. Extending the lines would fly in the face of that concern, he Dointed out.
