Last week, the supervisors cut $213,253 - or the equivalent of about nine cents on the real estate tax rate - from the school budget proposed for 1987-88.
Squeezed around the table in the zoning administrator’s office this Monday night for a work session, they added most of that nine cents back, the bulk of it going for solid waste collection and disposal. I It’s an election year and the county’s draft budget leaves the board with a 33 percent tax increase, despite a draw of $464,228 from accumulated surplus. That’s enough to purse the lips and furrow the brow of the local officials who oversee county spending.
