• Tabled action on approval of the final draft of the State Water Control Board’s Rappahannock River basin water supply plan. Mr. Wickens raised questions about its compatibility with the town’s comprehensive plan. Since Mr. Fisher was not at the meeting, approval was deferred until he could explain the plan in greater detail.
• Heard concerns from Peter Kramer that the chlorination of the town’s drinking water is too concentrated. He complained of white, cloudy water which smells and tastes like chlorine. He warned that chlorine is a dangerous chemical which, although necessary to kill harmful bacteria, is harmful itself if overused.
Mayor Morehouse said he would have the water tested for chlorine content and report back to council.
• Heard concerns raised once more about speeding in the town. “It’s getting out of control,” one member of the audience commented.
“You don’t know about frustration until you try to deal with the state,” the mayor replied. “We need a joint community effort to make it an issue ... if necessary we are prepared to go up through the ranks until we get to someone who will give us satisfaction.”
Mayor Morehouse asked that concerned citizens let the Sheriffs Department, the State Police and the Highway Department know their feelings about the problem.
