At Sunday^ meeting, mr. aimer said he told the citizens that before he would agree to take the job, he would need the approval of his law firm, which would require a demonstration of the commitment of the community. “They can’t just pay their money and walk away. I need their support.”

And, he added, “I do this for pay.” He told the group his services would require a $25,000 retainer, plus another $25,000 as a contingency fund, to be deposited in an account within 90 days.- “I can’t tell them what the total fight will cost,” he said. “To a large extent the community

and the board will determine how much it will cost. But I would not begin until there is a commitment of $25,000 as a retainer and $25,000 within 90 days. ”

Mr. Miller said that he had drawn up a letter of retainer, but that as .of Tuesday evening the citizens had not requested his services. He said that, given the time frame, he expected that he would hear from, them soon. “They have given me every indication that they are committed to it.”

Mrs. Frances Semones, one of the representatives of the Citizens for Jackson District, said Monday that the question of retaining Mr. Miller had been put to a show of hands at Sunday’s meeting, and the .residents present had offered their unanimous support.

She added that the fundraising has “been very rewarding so far . . . We’ve raised thousands of dollars - . let’s put it that way - several thousand dollars.”
