Bill Harrison has taken up the duties of Rappahannock County's building inspector, succeeding Emiel -j v Smet, who resigned May 1. His parttime schedule: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, will follow Mr. Smet’s established schedule.
Mr. Harrison comes to the position with experience as an industrial arts teacher at RCHS, as well as many years as a carpenter and woodworker.
He said he defines the position as “exactly what the title implies ... I will concentrate on the inspection of construction work. The law is the law . . . but interpretation can vary between individuals. The way you handle it, go about it, you can do things diplomatically.”
Before assuming his duties in Rappahannock County, Mr. Harrison spent some time working with Page County’s inspector Earl Hilliard, ias well as Mr. Smet, to become familiar with the state code. Mr. Harrison said that he has also already attended one state seminar (on inspection of carnival rides) and that “I intend to take every seminar offered to pick up as much knowledge as possible.
