oiuaenis or waKeneid School in Huntly have been informed that they have won important state and national awards in French, Latin, Greek and German.
In Level lb of the Virginia Chapter of the National French Contest, Wakefield sixth graders swept the field, winning all six awards. The 1st place winner was Kristen Hanisch, followed by Katrina Lindholm and Alison Brandt. Lyon Martin took the 4th place award, with Rachel Monahan, Bobby Nelson and Stephanie Torneden all tied for 5th place. Cynthia Shaw ranked 6th in Virginia.
In Level la of the contest, 7th graders Laura Larimer and Kathleen O’Neill ranked 5th and 7th in the state respectively.
Wakefield 8th graders Lewis Martin and Malcolm McCun'y were tied for 1st place in the state in the French level lb. Katie Holland, also an 8th grader, ranked 6th.
In the very advanced Level 4 of the contest, sophomore Tobias Dengel ranked 6th in the state.
