The first step toward the refurbishment of Washington’s ailing water system was taken last Wednesday when Town Council voted to send the project out for engineering and design specifications.
At the same time, Mayor Dean Morehouse and Treasurer Brad Fisher were authorized to seek funding from federal, state and private sources, or a combination of the three.
“It’s not going to be easy,” said Mayor Morehouse. “This thing is going to cost a lot more than we think.” Preliminary engineering done in 1978 by John Baumgardner, he said, put a price tag in the $40,000 range on the reconstruction project at that time.
