Within sight of Mt. Rogers, Virginia’s highest mountain, and with peaks of its own reaching a mile above sea level, Grayson Highlands possesses spectacular scenic beauty no matter what the season. The park’s Cabin and Willow Creeks are not stocked, but support populations of native brook and rainbow trout. Fishing is allowed in both creeks.
Grayson Highlands Park also has stables and a network of trails for horse-camping and trail-riding.
The Appalachian Trail also passes through the park, allowing hikers a chance to enjoy the luxury of a hot shower while staying at the park campground or stocking up on provisions at the camp store.
Among the exhibits at the park’s visitor center is a display relating the customs and lifestyle of the early mountain settlers.
