Jessie Waites Fund. Where was it supposed to go?
The people who organized the Jessie Waites Fund decided to continue the project with the aim of helping others whose needs cannot be completely met by the conventional welfare programs, service agencies and community groups. As the Last Resort, they plan:
• to contribute to the Rappahannock County Social Services Department’s discretionary fund.
• to offer a nurse’s aide training program this fall. With this training, Rappahannock people will meet Medicare requirements to provide home nursing care and with trained aides available, eligible Medicare patients who choose to do so will be able to stay here in their homes rather than enter a nursing home.
• to explore the possibility of offering a continuing support program for chronically ill children and young adults and their families. Recently, Last Resort’s organizers met with a representative from Project Rainbow, which provides similar services, to learn how that program operates.
Last Resort has an informal board of directors which now includes Cherry Vanneman, Arlene Frye, Barbara Coffee, Rev. Jenks Hobson, Rae Haase, Jane Mullin, Nancy Anderson, Marie Davis, Richard Abell and Daphne Hutchinson.
