Mr. Morehouse noted that a study done several years ago estimated that, given its present boundaries and supply needs, the town “probably” has sufficient water supply from its well to fill its customers needs until the year 2030. An extension of supply lines would, he said, only beg for a problem sooner.

Plans for another extension, down the Harris Hollow road to the well-head at the bottom of the hill, was approved by council. Mr. Morehouse explained that extension would complete a loop which would allow the system to be fed from either of two supply points, as opposed to the existing one source off Piedmont Ave. He added that every distribution plan he has seen provides for two points of supply.

That extension, the mayor said, “is primarily for emergency situations, not a distribution line.” An expansion tank hooked directly to the well would allow water to be pumped directly into the system, bypassing the existing reservoir in case of a leak in that supply line. The cost for that extension and the hookup to the well would, the mayor estimated, be in the neighborhood of $15,000.

The meeting was opened to a public hearing for comment on council's proposal to expand the town’s planning commission from five to seven members. There were no comments from the four residents present at the meeting. Mayor Morehouse noted that it is imperative that the planning commission “get moving” on its agenda.

Reinhardt Lynch was appointed to the commission for a two-year term, and Joyce Kramer will serve for one-year before coming up for reappointment. They join the five members presently serving: Bill Frizell, Wallace Critzer, Gloria Robinson, Bill Wickens and Dan Lewis.

Mayor Morehouse noted that there are also two openings for the town’s three-member Board of Zoning Appeals. Charlie Eldred is presently the only member. He asked for names to be recommended to the Circuit Court for appointment.
