Lynn Bailey of Washington won the apple pie baking contest held in September at RCHS to select the best apple pie baker to represent the school in the Winchester Apple Harvest Arts and Crafts Festival.
RCHS was among four schools which were recognized for coming the longest distance to participate in the contest.
The fifth regional apple pie baking contest was open to students from Home Economics-homemaking classes of junior high, middle and high schools in the apple sections of the Virginias, Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania. Every student entering the contest received a gift from Rotary, miscellaneous favors, apple products, a badge with the name of her school and three complimentary festival admission tickets.
Lynn’s pie was baked before the contest using fresh apples and a homemade pie crust. Pies were judged on appearance, texture and flavor.
Rappahannock did not have any regional winning pies. School winners besides Lynn were Suzzette Murphy second, Darlene Moore third, and Melissa Payne fourth.
