Currently, the Health Department’s square foot rental cost works out to about $4.90; Mr. Full estimated that would jump to $6 a square foot for new rented space.
Supervisor A1 Henry questioned the accuracy of his projections for new construction. “Our actual cost would be substantially higher,” said Mr. Henry, predicting that purchasing land, putting up even a prefab building and including interest payments in the amortization would add seven to 10 cents to the real estate tax rate.
“It would be at least $12,500 a year under today’s conditions,” agreed Supervisor Miller.
