After Monday’s public hearing, the Board of Supervisors has two candidates.for Hampton District’s seat on the county School Board: Bryant Lee and Peter Kreyling.
Mr. Lee, an orchardist and fanner who graduated from Rappahannock County High School, was named to the School Board last July 6 but a revision to state law which took effect on July 1 invalidated his appointment. (The sentence added to the code stipulates that a School Board appointee must have been considered at the required public hearing held prior to filling the vacancy. Mr. Lee’s name was not among those discussed at the public hearing June 22 on the Hampton District vacancy.)
Following the advice of Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke, Mr. Lee resigned as of midnight, Oct. 18. He announced, however, that he is seeking reappointment.
“I’ve been concerned about the county’s educational system for a number of years,” said Peter Kreyling, the single attendee at Monday’s hearing. “I see this as an opportunity to make a contribution.”
Mr. Kreyling cited his experience in education - he is a graduate of Drexel University with a BS in electrical engineering and a minor in psychological counseling, and he worked as an audiovisual technician and counselor at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and Glaydin School in
