Mr. Chadwell has no total yet on the overall increase in worth for Rappahannock’s taxable property. “We’re not finished,” he explained, noting that he and the assessment board will continue to meet with landowners through Oct. 30.

Even then, the bottom lines on the 5,000 or so assessment cards won’t be tallied. Landowners will have another court of appeals in the Equalization Board, still to be appointed by the Board and Supervisors and set to begin hearings in January. “They’re the final authority, not us,” concluded Mr. Parrish.
