“This assessment is about as equal as you’re going to get,” said Col. Luke, adding that “it helped considerably” to have three real estate agents versed in sales figures on the Board of Assessors.

Few changes have come from the complaints received through noon on Tuesday. In fact, assessments have been raised in several cases where landowners seeking to have values loiwered gave the Board of Assessors new information. The handful adjusted downward were largely the result of typographical or administrative errors, Col. Luke noted. “They’ve been the cause of some of the complaints that the appraisals are too high ... It would be hard to get all 5,000 cards (typed from the appraiser’s handwritten field notes) perfect.”
