He suggested conditions that would make the permit specific to Ms. Haase, allow only a business of the type described on the application, which occupies no more than 700 square feet inside, and restrict the days of operation to Monday through Saturday. The largest question raised by the proposal, he added, is the availability of adequate parking for customers.
“I don’t think there would be a lot of people in the store at once,” Ms. Haase replied.
Maurice Herndon, Senior Warden of Trinity Church, commented on the application "as a friendly neighbor.” He assured the council that Ms. Haase had spoken with the church representatives and had pledged her cooperation in retaining the ambience of the neighborhood, but added that “we want to express concern about what may happen down the road — after Ms. Haase leaves. The next applicant may not present as desirable a business for approval.”
He added that the church has just undertaken an extensive beautification project on the lot next to the house, and envisions “a quiet place” for reflection, meditation and use of the church’s parishioners and the town’s residents. The improvements, are leading to the creation of a living memorial, he said, dedicated to the memory of members of the church’s congregation who have passed away.
