Sen. Miller concedes that he erred in signing on as a patron to a bill introduced in 1985 which would have required local governments to allow mobile homes in agricultural zones.
“I had no idea people out here were so opposed to them,” he said.
He maintains that he would have voted against the original bill (which was killed before reaching the floor). But he still supports the amendment in the nature of a substitute he introduced which would have required “double-wide” trailers to be treated the same as site-built residences in all zoning districts.
On other issues, Sen. Miller:
• Favors giving localities the option of electing school board members, but does not think elected boards should have taxing power.
