'987' exchange

C & P Telephone Co. subscribers in the “987” Sperryville exchange may now dial “911” to contact the Sheriffs Department dispatch office.
The new development was announced by County Administrator John McCarthy during the Board of Supervisors’ meeting Monday afternoon.
At last month’s meeting Mr. McCarthy reported that C & P wanted several thousand dollars to switch 911 emergency calls from “987” the exchange that were then being routed into the Culpeper Sheriffs office to Rappahannock’s dispatch office instead. The two counties had already agreed on the mechanics of the switching arrangement, and only C & P’s proposed charge stood in the way.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke suggested that Mr. McCarthy write the State Corporation Commission about the difficulties with C & P.
