To the editor:
It seems to me that all these people who are bundling up newspapers and recycling aluminum cans and glass bottles are overlooking the obvious.
To me, recycling is like putting a band-aid on skin cancer - treating the symptom without correcting the problem. Because the problem isn’t too much trash and waste; the problem isn’t pollution; the problem isn’t development, or industrial waste, or automobiles.
The problem, very simply, is just too many people. Never mind figures and statistics. Just consider this: every human being, no matter how much he recycles, no matter how much love and respect he has for the environment, will in his lifetime create uncounted thousands of tons of garbage, exhale untold cubic yards of carbon dioxide, and create untold gallons of sewage.
