R.O. Updike, a 63-year-old resident of Orlean, who said he remembers See living in Fauquier County, doesn’t consider him to be a reliable source.
“He was a habitual liar and a thief,” said Mr. Updike.
Mr. Updike, who lives between Wheatley and Bear’s Den, confirmed that See lived with Mr. Rollison, saying that Mr. Rollison was “thinking he could help him.”
“[See] was a good bit of trouble for everyone,” said Mr. Updike, who recalled See as a blond youngster with a fair complexion and small build.
“But he wasn’t much trouble ’til your back was turned,” he added.
When asked if there was any truth in See’s story, Mr. Updike said, “I don’t think there’s a thing in the world to what he’s talked about.”
Sheriff Olinger echoed the sentiments of Updike, saying, “I didn’t think there was much truth to that because if there were that many graves, somebody would have found something.”
