These four Sunday evenings collectively called “The Exchange” are planned to be low cost and to “acknowledge the importance the audienc plays, supporting the investment the artist and audience have in one another in enriching the life of the community together,” according to Ms Portman.

The 1991 Memorial Day weekend will see a gathering of artists and audiences from Virginia, the Mid-Atlantic and New England states for performances and workshops including a performance of “Conference of the Birds, Part I” by Ki Theater and “American Stories” performed by The Actors’ Ensemble of New York.

Besides these events which will take place at Ki Theater’s home in the old Town Hall in Washington, the group has a busy schedule of performances and workshops on tour throughout the nation and even overseas.

“Each of the artists in Ki Theater has a major performing career on his or her own,” Ms Portman said. She performs with her husband Paul Reisler, who is the dominating spirit behind the Trapezoid band. The two of them frequently perform with Bob Read, another member of Trapezoid.
