I concluded (I don’t know how Mr. Sweet feels on this point!) that it was not, citing Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait. We have a very large Defense establishment, Mr. S. Hussien knew it, and he invaded Kuwait. Q.E.D.
But the unquenchable Mrs. Pond argues (1) that Mr. S. Hussein invaded because he believed that we would not fight, and (2) that the reason he thought we would not fight was that there was “so much handwringing among shortsighted people.
When I say that I agree with Mrs. Pond in her first argument, I hope she won’t backpedal on it. She is undoubtedly correct.
