“The revised plan will be an issues-driven plan,” Mr. Lindenboom said.
The goal is a plan that allows multiple use of the forest’s more than 1.1 million acres. The public meetings have featured input from concerned citizens, area representatives of state agencies and several environmental groups, including the Audubon Society, Appalachian Trail Club, Earth First! in addition to businessmen representing the timber industry and off-road/all-terrain vehicle enthusiaists.
“The key to this plan is public input,” Supt. Kelley said, “but it does take more time.”
The plan’s completion date recently was extended six months until May 1992.
The meeting will be at the Howard Johnson Lodge off Interstate 81 (Exit 53) at U.S. 11. It will start at 6:30 p.m. and continue until 9:30.
