Heus show
opens Nov. 10
at Rush River

An exhibition of paintings by local artist Ray Heus will open at Washington’s Rush River Company this Saturday, Nov. 10.
Mr. Heus, who has lived in Rappahannock County, most recently in Old Hollow, since 1981, said his philosophy of painting is to “just go out and try to do something beautiful. It’s a beautiful world out there, and I just try to paint it.”
He explained that he has adapted his painting technique to make it easier to capture the fleeting moments of perfect light and shadow he sees as he works. Working with gouache, “watercolors without the water,” he explained, Mr. Heus paints on a paper which is an empire green color rather than the usual white.
