Ki Theater has a full season of performances and workshops planned.
Ki Theater (pronounced key), formerly called The Golden Key, is a multidisciplinary arts performing group combining dance, music, story-telling and theater.
“Our mission is to present work that is politically, culturally and spiritually relevant, and also to speak to the diversity of cultures in our culture,” Artistic Director Julie Portmen said. “We are committed to crossing the boundaries that separate the different art forms and the boundaries that separate the artist and the audience.”
Workshops on “Dancing with Your Voice” and “Telling Good Stories” given by Ms Portman started this week and will continue throughout November.
A performance “Paths to the Edge” with Ms Portman, Paul Reisler and Bob Read presenting new stories and music is scheduled for Dec. 1, in conjunction with Washington’s Colonial Christmas.
This winter will see a series of four Sunday evening exchanges between artists and their audiences. The first “The Writer” on Jan. 13 will feature Nol Putnam reading from his autobiography, “With Apologies to Chekhov”.
On Feb. 10 “The Composer” will feature Carlton Coon, Lorraine Duisit, and Richard Squires. On March 10, “The Visual Artist” will be presented by Ruth Blackwell Rogers, and on April 7 “The Choreographer/Performer” will be presented by Sally Nash, Sharon Wyrrick and Denise Read.
