when they dial 911. The basic system does not have that selective switching feature, however.
And although the supervisors approved a telephone surcharge to pay for the installation of the E-911 system several months ago, the county must still establish a database for the computer program which runs that system. Sheriff Woodward estimated that, due to the work involved, E-911 will not be installed for at least two years.
Meanwhile, for residents used to the old seven-digit emergency number, Sheriff Woodward added, 9878525 is still an active emergency line for calls coming into the county dispatch office.
