He told them if they had a friend who passed out from drinking and they couldn’t wake him up to call an ambulance because the stomach might continue to release alcohol into the blood stream until the heart and lungs stop.
“We live in a society that encourages, expects and demands you use mind altering drugs but doesn’t tolerate it if you have problems,” he said. He added that most people can use drugs without serious negative experiences. “You might say something that will embarrass you the next day or you may throw up in your mother’s car,” he explained. “Others experience bad consequences, addiction, dependency, permanent disability, death and imprisonment," he added.
“When you take a chemical and get high, it’s not the drug that’s doing that,” he said. “The chemicals artificially block or stimulate chemicals that are already in the body.”
He said there are other ways to get high. He said for him success in sports and love are “highs.” He said he also gets high from skiing, motorcycling, and hang gliding. He added that both laughing and crying can give some of the same experiences as drugs. “One night I almost OD’ed in laugh lock,” he said.
“You’re going to make the decisions,” he said. “If you decide to use chemicals, I hope you don’t have bad consequences. If you decide not to, I hope you will still experience highs.”
