The school has four bus runs, one originates in Culpeper, goes through Sperryville and Washington; another starts in New Baltimore, picks up in Warrenton and Amissville; a third begins in Charles Town, W.Va. and stops in Summit Point, Berryville, Boyce and Front Royal and the fourth goes from Woodstock through Strasburg and Front Royal.
At Wakefield School in Marshall, enrollment last week was 149 students, a figure Board of Directors chairman Lynn Hopewell said was “a little smaller than we hoped but a lot bigger than we were afraid of. I suspect next year we’ll have 100 more students.”
He said the vast majority of their students attended Wakefield in Huntly last year.
A few disputes with Wakefield Country Day over property remain, said Mr. Hopewell, but he expressed optimism that they would soon be resolved.
The school’s new site, the Marshall Manor building, has been “remarkably problem-free. It turns out the new facility is really quite nice.”
Mr. Hopewell said the first-year operating budget will probably be about $200,000 in the red, added to the approximately $300,000 in debt
