Mrs. Hawkins was bom Sept. 1, 1894 in Rappahannock County, the daughter of William Archibald and Mary Louis Mitchell Hawkins. She was employed as a school teacher, by the Census Bureau of Washington, D.C. and as a practical nurse. She attended schools in Luray and Harrisonburg and was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.
Survivors include three children, Mrs. Frances Schober of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Dorothy E. Carder of King of Prussia, Pa. and Albert Amos Hawkins of Bowling Green, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and a daughter-inlaw, Mrs. Hazel Hawkins of Boston.
Mrs. Hawkins was predeceased by her husband, Joseph R. Hawkins Sr. and one son, Joseph R. Hawkins Jr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Clore Funeral Home chapel in Culpeper with Rev. Dan Gregg officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper.
