The Rappahannock High soccer team’s record dropped to 1-2 after losing twice this week, both against experienced, more talented teams.
The Panthers took on a Randolph Macon Academy team that Coach Uli Maeyer said was possibly the best RMA squad he has ever seen, and lost 4-1 at home, the one goal coming on a penalty kick by Damien Muriel.
“It’s a team we can beat,” said Coach Maeyer.
Monday night against the George Mason Mustangs, the Panthers played a tight defensive game for the first half, leaving the field with a 1-1 tie.
In the second half Rappahannock tried to press for another goal, but George Mason was able to get two easy goals. The final score was 5-1.
Coach Maeyer said the Panthers “want to win so badly they just exhaust themselves. This is a team that has started to understand the game theoretically. Physically there are just tremendous gaps between the 9th graders and the seniors.”
