Ruth Elizabeth Blackwell of Sperryville, died Tuesday, September 17, 1991 in Alexandria.
Miss Blackwell was bom in West Falls Church, Virginia on December 22, 1922 and lived in Millis, Mass, until 1943 when her family relocated to the Washington, D.C. area. Sperryville became her home in 1974 when she became librarian for the Rappahannock County Library. In 1976 she was appointed as Clerk of the General and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts.
An active member of the Christian Science Church in Warrenton, Miss Blackwell served in many capacities, including Sunday School Teacher, First Reader and Board Member. She was also a member of the Mother Church, the First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston, Mass.
Among her many hobbies after retirement in January 1988 were stained glass creations. Several windows in her new church in Warrenton were crafted by her.
Miss Blackwell is survived by a brother, Dean C. Blackwell of Hayesville, N.C.; a nephew, David C. Blackwell of Mint Hill, N.C.; and a niece, Susan Blackwell Gregory of Bedford, Mass.
A Memorial Service will be held on October 18, 1991 at 3 p.m. on the steps of the Courthouse, Gay Street, Washington, Va.
