Rappahannock Sheriff John H. Woodward goes for a third term Tuesday, challenged by Roger Cordani of Amissville, an arson investigator for Prince William County.
Mr. Cordani, 41, has waged an aggressive campaign against Sheriff Woodward, spending months going door-to-door promoting himself as an alternative to the incumbent.
Mr. Cordani has proposed a junior deputy program, greater contact with high school students and more responsiveness to citizens’ complaints.
Sheriff Woodward, 43, a Castleton resident and county native, has run a profit-making jail, instituted the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) prograin and appears to have built a broad base of support.
The sheriff said this week he feels “happy and confident. I don’t see any problems whatsoever. I read it that they’re just happy with the job I’m doing.”
As of Monday Sheriff Woodward had raised $7,072 and spent $4,429.
