Proceeded by the Rappahannock County High School Marching Band, the court and queen were delivered to the soccer field in style-perched atop convertible cars, gleeming under the brillant October sun.
“We would like to recognize the volunteers who drive the girls,” said NHS sponsor and teacher Freida Herman.
Assisting the activities were Jack Atkins in a 1989 blue Mustang, Julian Brown in a 1969 red Corvette, Keith Switzer in a 1977 yellow Corvette, A1 Kellert in a 1987 blue Formula Firebird, Bill Atkins in a 1989 grey Mustang and Terry Garrard in a red 1988 Mustang.
Saturday night, the queen reigned over the dance, held in the common area in the high school.
‘The students start planning this dance about September,” said NHS member Rachel Atkins.
Deciding a theme, decorating and clean-up are part of the necessary arrangements for the dance. This year, the club has nine members but were assisted by the school’s six exchange students.
