Oration contest

The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution is sponsoring the Douglass G. High Oration Contest in this area. The contest is for original orations of not less than five minutes nor more than six minutes dealing with American History of the Revolutionary War period—personality, event, or document—and its relationship to events of today.
Any member of the sophomore, junior, or senior class of an area secondary school is eligible to enter. The winner of each school contest will compete with the winners from the other schools in the area on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Holiday Inn in Culpeper.
The winner from that competition will participate at the state level in Richmond in February 1992. That winner will represent the State of Virginia at the national level in June 1992.
The awards at the national level are: first place, $1,000; second place, $600; and third place, $400. At the state level: first place, $200; second place, $125; third place, $75. At the local level, $100 is awarded to the first-place winner.
Transportation to the state contest is provided by the chapter for the local winner. Transportation to the national contest for the state winner is provided by the state society.
