Although they have no opposition, the five members of the Baord of Supervisors are running for reelection this year and meeting with their constituents.
Not surprisingly they report that the main concerns the voters they talk to have are the new reassessment and taxes.
Wakefield District representative Hubert S. Gilkey III said many voters blame the reassessment on the supervisors. He has been explaining that the supervisors have almost no control over the reassessment, only deciding to have it done after four years, rather than waiting for six years.
He said that properties were selling for so much more than their assessed value the supervisors felt that should not wait another two years for a reassessment. “It was so lopsided we needed to get it back up, but now maybe it’s lopsided in the other direction,” he said.
He said that the main challenge for the next four years will be to “maintain what we’ve started.” He added that he believes the issue of handling septage will come up during the next term.
