The fountain has been installed as have many plantings around it. Some passersby say it is “beautiful” or “lovely.” Others express the view that it is all perhaps “too much for our town.” As Ms. van Dort predicted, the fountain is dwarfed, not only by the large Bradford pear tree that was already there, but by the other plantings. Such plantings are definitely not under the purview of the ARB. Frankly we hope this is the end of the issue.
But before it is laid to rest, we must say we are puzzled. If the patrons of The Inn are able to enjoy the planting and fountain as well as members of the church, patrons of the post office, Rare Finds, Eileen Day Realty and the Middle Street Gallery, has anyone been harmed? This is what used to be called a “win-win” solution. When did that become a bad thing?
