Farmers who hire non-American work crews under the H-2A program face increased hassles form the U.S. Department of Labor, warns Jane Futch, Virginia Farm Bureau Federation assistant public affairs director.
“I recently attended a migrant labor conference in Williamsburg where representatives of the Legal Services Corp. (a migrant worker advocacy group) made it quite clear they were out to kill the H-2A program,” she said.
According to Ms. Futch, farmers who previously hired alien workers were allowed to use American workers at the same time. 1
