A group of young people form Washington Baptist Youth Group and Sunday School have made a commitment to wait until marriage for sex. 1
The commitment cards which they signed were displayed this week at the Southern Baptist Convention in Orlando, Fla. with approximately 100,000 commitment cards from young people all over the country.
Recognizing the rising threat of Alt)S and other sexually transmitted diseases, the youth have decided to participate in a national campaign called “True Love Waits.” The abstinence-based campaign was originally conceived by the Southern Baptist Church School Board and' has flourished to become a non-denominational program.
Youth must be challenged to understand the facts about pre-marital sex and, armed with the truth, make wise sexual decisions, the youth group learned.
Based on the biblical mandate of marriage before sex, the “True Love Waits” program encourages youth to sign commitment cards promising to remain “sexually pure” from that moment on. “Sexually pure” means practicing abstinence form the moment forward, offering those who have already been sexually active a second chance.
