Mr. Werronen said that all animals adopted out have all of their shots, and adult animals are spayed or neutered. Because of these expenses, new owners are charged $75 for dogs and $35 for cats.
The special guest speaker at the luncheon was Dr. Michael W. Fox, a veterinarian and vice president of the Humane Society of the United States. /
He spoke of compassion and reverence for one another, for animals and for the earth. He said, “A sign of hope and of civilization and preservation is an active humane society, animal shelter and such things af food banks, orphanages, housing for all in need, and regional sustainable family farms. Too few know about the work that sustains them or how. Milk comes from cartons, not from cows; the soil is dirt, not gold; nature is a resource and animals were created primarily for human use.”
He concluded with, “The humane society here is the beginning of a much broader vision.”
