The Reform Party has the shortest platform, only 10 pages. It calls for high ethical standards for Congress and the White House, including retirement and health care plans no more generous than those of an average American citizen, and no more trips and junkets paid for by special interests.
The Reform Party platform also calls for a balanced budget amendment and campaign reform. It says the election should last no more than four months. Voting for President should be direct, without the electoral college, and elections should be held on weekends. It says there should be no exit polls announced until after polls close in Hawaii, and candidates for Congress should be required to raise all the funds for their campaigns from within their districts.
It calls for creating a new tax system, unspecified, and limiting terms of members of the House and Senate. It would bar lobbying for foreign governments by former members of Congress forever and would limit other lobbying.
The U.S. Taxpayers Party, which includes the Virginia Taxpayers Party, calls for a return to a "republic governed by Constitutional law rooted in Biblical law."
It states the Roe v. Wade Supreme ^CourfcfeciSion on alxirtion is "illegitimate, contrary to the law of the nation's charter and constitution. It must be resisted by all civil government officials, federal state and local, and by all branches of government...."
The U.S. Taxpayers Party platform calls for repealing the 17th Amendment to the constitution so U.S. Senators would be selected by state legislatures rather than by the people in elections. The party favors a moratorium on immigration, and repealing all taxes except tariffs. The cost of government beyond that covered by tariffs would be assigned to the states in a "state rate," based on the state's share of the total population.
The Natural Law Party also calls for scaling back taxes with a low flat tax rate, but it says that much savings can be realized through health care that emphasizes prevention, and particularly through transcendental meditation.
The party platform says reduced taxation would lead to increased economic activity and the results should be shared equally giving more to workers in terms of higher pay and reduced working hours.
The party also claims to have "proven" educational programs to boost the "national intelligence and creativity."
