Where exactly in the cemetery most of the headstones belong is a mystery, but Dawn plans to place them in neat rows once they are repaired. Some of the headstones were broken off at the base, and Dawn hopes to match up the top part with those. That will allow her to mow the grass in the cemetery and keep it in good conditioh. .
She will also be expanding the size of the cemetery to double its size, to allow it be used as the Havstad cemetery also. Once it is all cleared out and the headstones are in place, she plans to build a split rail fence around it, partly to keep out the cows.
Dawn learned some about the Taylor family from the Historical Society, but mostly she has been providing the society with information about them from the headstones. She said that people from the society came out and took photographs of the cemetery for their files.
She has also been working with Tom Taylor's daughter. The Taylor family lives in Old Hollow and is related to the Taylor family in the cemetery. The daughter is working on a Taylor family tree.
Dawn imagines that she will have spent close to 100 hours on the project once it is completed in the spring. Before this winter, she will be concentrating on getting the rest of the cemetery cleared. Once the ground turns hard from the cold, she will not be able to put in the fence until it softens up in the spring.
Now a senior at RCHS, Dawn has been a Girl Scout since the third grade. To apply for the Gold Award, she was required to write a paper discussing how her project would benefit the community. She is required to keep a log of her hours and must write a final report on the project.
