Mr. President, why did you veto the partial-birth abortion ban — a procedure so barbaric that 70 percent of the American people were in favor of the ban? Members of Congress are against partial birth abortions, too — the House of Representatives voted to override your veto, and the Senate came very close to the 2/3 majority needed to tell you "No!" Citizens should check out this procedure — it is unbelieveable that a civilized society would tolerate this act.
Mr. President, how do you explain that we now have the highest consumer debt ever in history while, at the time, you tell us how great we aft doing? When you took office the economy was on the upswing, growing m the 5 percent range. Today it is 215 percent. In the production livestock industry, which involves many Rappahannock farmers, we have the highest production costs in history, and we are selling cattle for one-half or less than we did four years ago when you took office. As we approach November 5$ probably the most important election in our life times, we have a president seeking another term who has broken promise after promise to the American people. He has withheld information! surrounding himself with dozens of scandals, appointed drug users and broken faith with his own wife. The! old saying, "We are known by thej company we keep" sure enough applies here.
I ask fellow citizens: Haven't we} had enough? Is this the kind of lead-i ership we want for our nation — the kind of example we want for ourf children? We have a clear choice this! election: Bob Dole and Jack Kem^ promise us a tax cut, and they wan^ to give back government to the stated and localities. I think it's time wq reclaim America by giving them d try.
