Though she and her attorney pleaded with the judge to not send her to jail, Yvette Maria Burke, 31, of Boston, was sentenced to 12 months in jail, with nine months suspended and three months to serve, for a petit larceny charge. In a plea agreement, the petit larceny charge had been amended down from a grand larceny charge.
Following the sentencing, her attorney, Brandon Gladstone, asked the judge if his client could begin her sentence later, because she did not want to be in jail for the holidays. Judge. W. Shore Robertson denied Mr. Gladstone's motion, saying that Ms. Burke will be in jail over Thanksgiving but will be out in time to do her Christmas shopping.
Ms. Burke was also sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections for possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony, which is in itself a felony. In line with the plea agreement with the Commonwealth, that sentence was
