schools. The schools receive strong support from our community, but resources are limited, and Faith Mountain would like to be able to bring the joy and wonder of the creative and performing arts to our students' learning experience."
Faith Mountain's customers bought 950 suncatchers, with the design of a schoolhouse, at $10 each.
Ms. Crocker said other donations came from more than 100 sources, with the largest individual donation being $650. She solicited donations through letters sent to each student’s home and through mailings to supporters of the arts in Rappahannock County.
"I would like to have seen more parents respond," she said. "Only 10 percent of the students' households made a donation. Even a small donation would have been welcome."
The most touching donation she has ever received, she said, was a quarter pressed into her hand by a small child at the elementary school after the child saw the American Jazz Ensemble. "This kid was so thrilled by the music, he wanted to give whatever he could to make sure the musicians came back."
Positive feedback also comes from teachers and administrators. "The programs have been exceptionally good,” said Principal Jack Raines. "I've worked in three larger schools and none has offered anything any better than what we've seen here.
"The uniqueness of our small size enables us to reach all of our kids with these excellent people. We're not just killing time with these assemblies — our students are really getting enriched."
