story, though, a paper that gives a broader view of the liberal agenda and what it's all about: power, control, regulations and taxes. The power to enslave our people, to regulate our freedoms and control the information flow to the public and our children.
I have a number of questions I'd like to ask President Clinton. Why, Mr. President, do you sent your child to a private school and are not willing to support the voucher system that would allow all children the same choice and opportunity? If the Department of Education is doing such a great job of guiding public education, one would think you would want your child to share in this great opportunity. The truth is: private and home schooled children excel, when compared by SAT scores. These programs are directed by parents, not the federal government. The kids in the public schools are not less intelligent — it is the system that stifles them.
I believe, from all I hear, that the Rappahannock County School system is one of the best in the country, with a lot of great personnel. However, I am sure that at times they feel strapped by government regulations and mandates, a real disappointment for me was when the Rappahannock County School Board voted to accept Goals 2000, opening the door for more government control. Thank God for Governor Allen's veto. From this federal program it was estimated that Rappahannock would receive between $4,000 to $8,000. In the 1996 school budget, only 3.7 percent of the funding comes from the federal government. In other words, the federal government wants to give communities some pocket change then tell them how to educate their children. Goals 2000 would have widened the crack in the door to total government control of public education. Again, where do federal funds come from? Liberal Democrats would have you think it comes from "pie in the sky” when, in fact, your paycheck stub will reveal the real source.
In the same spirit and strength President Reagan had when he challenged the communists to set their people free, Rappahannock citizens ought to stand up and free our schools from all federal government control. If federal taxes are cut by the amount Senator Dole suggest, we will have
