reform legislation which went into effect in July, 1995, our Social Services Department drastically altered its employment program. The Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare (VIEW) is operating here and has had twenty participants. Rappahannock was one of the first five counties to begin this program. The state is phasing in other areas incrementally and the whole state will be involved in three years.
The Social Service Department is the point at which the many problems that arise from unemployment, disabilities and other hardships are dealt with by government — and the community. You will be surprised and interested to hear about the activities of this agency that operates confidentially with its clients but can discuss with us the character and magnitude of its work among our citizens.
We will have an opportunity to become informed with facts, as opposed to being bombarded with propaganda, and to ask Mrs. Leathers questions.
