current on locality, were different on the approach. We needed to find the entrance to the Joseph W. Bowen property and from that point turn left, cross the Thornton and go up the hill. The house site is not difficult to find. This I discovered last fall, but the cemetery was another matter. I had no success on the first try.
Following the directions given, also well known to us, and easier too from having been there previously, it took a while to maneuver over the river. The river itself, now drastically charged in appearance, depth and width since Fran’s meanness. Mounds of rock, fallen trees and other barriers forced us to use no small strategy in crossing.
After reaching the house site and the spring our thought were set upon finding the cemetery. We knew we would! We'd said so before beginning the trip, but as time was moving on and we had not found it yet we began to question our own prediction.
