There are some all-new models in the ■97 Chevy line. The mid-sized Malibu will arrive at local dealers in a few months. It will be offered with a 150-h.p. 2.4 litre four, or 155-h.p. 3.1 litre V-6.
The Lumina enters the model year as Chevy’s full-size sedan, and the new LTZ model gets a 215-h.p. V-6 and four-wheel disc brakes.
The Monte Carlo coupe, first offered last year, is available in a sporty Z34 version.
Likewise, an RS model of the Cavalier will be offered in '97 which has the look but not the price tag of the Z24.
1997 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Chevy Z28 Camaro, and commemorative models with distinctive interior treatments are planned.
There is a lot of excitment about the fifth-generation Corvette, to be unveiled in January. It will have an all-aluminum overhead valve 5.7 litre engine that produces 340 h.p. Watch for it!
A new mini-van joins the Chevy line-up for '97. The Venture, a front-wheel drive model powered by a 180-h.p. 3.4 litre V-6, replaces the old Lumina van.
The Venture offers many new high-tech gadgets, including the Sungate metalliccoated windshield that also acts as the radio antenna, and has 17 cup holders and 26 storage bins built in. The Venture has an allsteel body, rather than the plastic panels u$ed on its predecessor.
The rear-drive, mid-size Astro van continues with minor changes, including new leather seat surfaces and transmission refinements.
