The Rappahannock Board of Zoning Appeals reviewed an application by Slate Mills resident Carol Vogel to conduct a private school for art instruction at its April meeting last week.
Vogel had applied for permission to conduct art workshops at various times during the year. All the workshops would be held during the day. There would be two large workshops lasting several weeks and other smaller ones lasting for two, four or five days. There would also be a youth summer workshop.
Vogel told the BZA that the maximum number of students she could have at any one time was 18 and that most classes would be for about 10 to 14 students.
Her application before the County Planning Commission last month was supported by members of the community and local artists who spoke very favorably about the school and the level of instruction available.
Classes offered will be on art history, art appreciation, drawing and painting.
