The county school board and board of supervisors celebrated National Volunteer Week by recognizing the scores of dedicated parent, teacher and community volunteers who support the school system here. Program director Jan Makela presented 250 certificates of appreciation at a party last Thursday hosted by the elementary school student council.
The RCES band performed a medley of stirring songs, and the student council got the crowd clapping and on its feet with a spirited rendition of “YMCA.” Assistant school superintendent Mary Ann Biggs provided mood music on her Celtic harp and Joy Rollins’ sixth grade chorus performed the touching selection “We Share the Rainbow.”
